Creative Decorating for Kids Birthdays
Themes for kids birthday parties have become more original than ever — just check out what’s new online and on Pinterest. In the quest to be different, here are some simple ways to add the finishing touches to an original theme using materials you have right at home or can purchase affordably:
Welcome to the party: Balloons and streamers are always festive, but you can also use some offbeat ideas to let your guests know they they have the right house. Create a fun path to the front door by cutting paper plates into the shape of pinwheels and have them spinning, or use party cups as faux luminaries by filling them with sand and lining them up to the door.
Fun banners: Purchase a simple design gift wrap or even use plates with a favorite character on them. Cut your wrap into fun shapes, or cut out the characters, and link the pieces together with string to create a one-of-a-kind pennant banner.
A fresh take on centerpieces: Get the ”pop” without the cost by creating whimsical flower bouquets out of tissue paper. Just shape the paper into blooms and put attractive color combinations together in any vase.
Placing it just right: Give your table a coordinated look by cutting wrap into squares and putting them under each place setting along with matching silverware holders. Or, even easier, use a roll of gift wrap as your tablecloth.
Consistency is key: No matter what your party is focused on, you can keep the theme alive everywhere through simple elements such as creating a border around mirrors in puffy stickers (which are easier to remove), or even just using balloons or streamers to line every entrance.
Remember, thinking outside the box can make decorating for your next birthday party easy and affordable!

Sweet Birthday Wishes
It’s officially birthday party season, and who doesn’t love that?!? No matter what age you’re celebrating, bringing a little sweetness to the table is a great way to have fun and bring people together. Traditional birthday cake is always a great staple of any good birthday party, but you can always use your imagination and add extra birthday flavor through cupcakes, candy, cake pops, and even ice cream sandwiches - yum! If you’re throwing a large party you can make a little of everything and fill the dessert table with all of these choices and more.
No matter what you decide to munch on, don’t forget that birthday parties bring us together to laugh, smile and celebrate with our friends and family. Birthday cards and Birthday ecards help the celebration continue and are a great way to express how you feel while letting the birthday guest of honor know you’re thinking of them on their special day.

What the heck do I write in this birthday card?
Celebrating a birthday is special, and sending a greeting card is the perfect way to add your wishes to the day. But once you’ve picked out the card, it’s nice to include your own personal message, too. You don’t need to be long—just sincere! So get your favorite pen ready—why not pick out colored ink for a fun touch?—and get writing!
First, consider how close your relationship is. If it’s a family member or dear friend, and you know what they have planned for their birthday, you can add a special wish such as “I hope your celebration gives you many happy memories to treasure always!” However, you can also write heartfelt words that will fit any relationship, and including a compliment is always appreciated. For example, “May your birthday be as special as you are!” or, “Wishing you all the happiness someone as nice as you deserves!”
For an added touch of thoughtfulness, include a quotation. There are many great quotation sites, or you can select one from a favorite book. Here are some that we especially like:
- Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others can not keep it from themselves. -Sir James Barrie
- And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years. -Abraham Lincoln
- This is the day the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. -Psalm 118:24
- A friend is, as it were, a second self. -Cicero
- You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. -C.S. Lewis
- We turn not older with years, but newer every day. -Emily Dickinson
- Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! -Henry David Thoreau
- A true friend is someone who knows all about you and likes you just the same. -Elbert Hubbard
- Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the world together. -Woodrow Wilson
Keep in mind that a warm closing will bring an extra smile for the birthday person. Consider phrases such as Thinking of You, Love Always, Your Friend, or Best Wishes. And, of course, don’t forget to sign your name!
